Educational app series Motion Math reaches one million download milestone

Author: Arthur Ricky  //  Category: Apple, iPhone

We often hear about games reaching one million downloads, but, today, educational app Motion Math announced it has reached this notable milestone, too. Motion Math develops four math-oriented titles for the iPad and the iPhone including its self-titled debut, Motion Math. All four titles (Motion Math, Motion Math Zoom, Motion Math: Hungry Fish and Motion Math:Wings) contributed to this million downloads milestone.

Interest is growing in educational apps, and this is evident in Motion Math’s download stats. In its press release announcing its one million downloads, the company said half of these downloads have come in the last four months. And this is only the beginning — as more schools adopt iPads, the download tally for Motion Math and other apps in the educational category is bound to increase.

Besides its one million downloads, Motion Math also used this occasion to announce its next app, Motion Math: Hungry Guppy. This title is Motion Math’s first app aimed at pre-schoolers and is expected to land in the iOS App Store this summer.

Motion Math Reaches One Million iOS App Downloads

Fun Math App Company Announces New Preschool Adding Game for Kids

San Francisco (June 13, 2012) — Motion Math, the pioneer of fun, interactive mobile math games, has surpassed more than one million downloads of its four award-winning titles, Motion Math HD (fraction estimation), Motion Math Zoom (number line and place value), Motion Math: Hungry Fish (arithmetic) and Motion Math: Wings (multiplication). Half of those downloads have come in the last four months and all four apps have reached Top 10 or Top 5 recognition in Apple’s App Store Education Category.

Motion Math’s fraction game was the subject of the first ever experiment on an iPad app, with research showing a 15% improvement in fractions estimation and a 10% improvement in math attitudes. Their latest game, Motion Math: Wings, features six different visual forms of multiplication, helping students build their understanding of the concept. Recognizing the importance of fundamental math skills for children’s success, parents and teachers have downloaded one million Motion Math games, turning screen time into learning time.

To address the needs of families with children as young as two, the company today also announced its first game for preschoolers, Motion Math: Hungry Guppy, the prequel to Motion Math: Hungry Fish. “We’re excited that Motion Math can meet the learning needs of families with young children,” said Gabriel Adauto, Motion Math co-founder. “By starting with dot visuals and slowly introducing numbers, Hungry Guppy helps preschoolers build an intuitive sense for addition.”

In the Top 5 game Motion Math: Hungry Fish, players find the many ways to create a specific sum, using the touchscreen to pinch two numbers together and instantly add them. Motion Math: Hungry Guppy has the same engaging gameplay, but uses a mix of dots and numbers to allow kids as young as two to learn their numbers and basic addition.

The Motion Math: Hungry Guppy math game will be available for the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch later this summer. Both Motion Math: Wings (http://bit.ly/mmwings) and Motion Math: Hungry Fish (http://bit.ly/hungryfish) are available now as free downloads on the App Store.

Motion Math creates fun learning games that let kids play with numbers. The company’s fractions app, conceived at the Stanford School of Education won a Serious Play Gold Medal. A rigorous efficacy study – the first done on an iPad educational app – found the game improved test scores 15% and attitudes towards fractions by 10%. Subsequent games – Motion Math Zoom, Motion Math: Hungry Fish, and Motion Math: Wings – have received rave reviews, promotion by Apple, and #5 rankings in the Education category. Motion Math is backed by a world-class group of angel investors, including Mitch Kapor, Dave McClure, and Mike Wood (the founder of LeapFrog), and has been featured in TechCrunch, VentureBeat, Wired, WSJ, Forbes, PBS NewsHour, Fast Company and the NYT. Most importantly: kids, parents, and teachers love Motion Math games. To learn more, visit http://www.motionmathgames.com.

Maps 3D iPhone app: Outdoor GPS navigation with 3D terrain display

Author: ally keer  //  Category: Apple, NDS, iPhone

Hamburg, Germany – Whether you’re skiing, cycling, mountaineering, off-roading or simply traveling – the Maps 3D iPhone app is the GPS navigation system for all your outdoor activities. The features are a delight – mountains, valleys and your own route are displayed in 3D from start to finish for a totally new navigation experience! Head developer Moritz Gaupp, previously responsible for the map displays at Navigon, combined precise NASA scans of the Earth’s elevation profile with the topographical maps of OpenStreetMap (OSM) for the first time to bring you this innovative app. The app displays an outdoor route network that is up to 30 percent more extensive than traditional maps – depending on the country. Maps 3D utilizes the best data currently available for outdoor use. You will benefit from the app’s unparalleled terrain display, which shows you a realistic mini-model of the surrounding region. This makes the 3D representation very intuitive to grasp compared to the classic 2D displays with contour lines (which Maps 3D can also generate, if desired). Skiers will be especially excited that the app shows more than 340 skiing regions around the world with countless slopes and cross-country ski trails.

Maps 3D not only provides orientation, but also helps with planning, plotting and segmenting of trips. When you plan your trip at home, first select the region of your choice at one of three zoom levels and download the data to your iPhone. Next you can download free tracks, trails and routes from trip portals such as EveryTrail or similar websites. With its clear elevation profile graphics, Maps 3D helps you assess how challenging the route will be and lets you maintain a precise overview during the planning phase and when trekking. Maps 3D displays various natural reference points along the way, such as mountains, lakes, rivers and landmarks to make orientation even easier for you. Hikers can plan for intermediate stops, so-called waypoints, which can be imported or created from scratch during the preparation stage. A compass, an altimeter that displays the exact height above sea level for every point on the map, and a line showing the most direct path between current location and destination further help with orientation. Geocachers will appreciate the option of being guided to a fixed set of coordinates. Users can also send recorded tracks to their friends by email.

The man behind the development of Maps 3D is Moritz Gaupp, a former feature product manager at Garmin/Navigon, where he was responsible for the successful navigation system’s map display until 2011. “We believe that users want solutions for better orientation outside of the car, particularly on their smartphones. This applies especially to all those who enjoy exploring the great outdoors. We want to drive this area forward with our app development centre, movingworld,” says Moritz Gaupp, movingworld founder and head developer.

Maps 3D at a glance:
* Facilitates GPS orientation during all outdoor activities
* Track recorder with real altitude data
* Trip computer with all key data
* Worldwide 2D and 3D maps in offline mode
* Maps from OpenStreetMap and OpenCycleMap, 340 skiing regions worldwide
* Select the destination region at home prior to your trip and download it in the desired resolution via WLAN
* Selectable Points of Interest (POI) are place and street names, mountain peaks, lakes and other landmarks
* Import and create waypoints
* High-resolution retina map display, rapid composition and fluid visualisation – Waypoints can be linked to pictures within the app

Media information:
If you would like to give Maps 3D a try, we will gladly send you a test code for the app – simply drop us a line or give us a call! We would be happy to arrange interviews with Moritz Gaupp.

Device Requirements:
* iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad
* Requires iOS 3.1.3 or later
* 9.2 MB

Pricing and Availability:
Maps 3D – GPS Tracks for Ski, Outdoor, Bike & Hike 2.5 is $2.99 USD (or equivalent amount in other currencies) and available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Navigation category.

Life Inventory Now Available To Help Improve Your Life – 5 Star Rating

Author: ally keer  //  Category: Apple, iPhone, others

Revere, Massachusetts – Independent developer James Hollender’s Life Inventory app has achieved a rating of 5 Stars. Using an iPhone or iPod touch, users can learn more about themselves than they ever thought possible, and only at a small fraction the cost of a single office visit to a therapist. Life Inventory is the new name for the Step 4 Moral Inventory Jr app. Originally designed for 12-steppers it was discovered the inventory would also be of benefit to anyone, which is why the name change.

Here’s what some users are saying about Life Inventory:

1. This app is amazing! – “This app is a must have for anyone looking to do a thorough moral inventory of yourself that helps summarize your thoughts, events, emotions, and actions of your life. With writing, honesty, support and prayer, this app will help you locate and find what triggers your behaviors. With well written instructions and easy to follow step by step sections, this app truly is an eye opener to my life and is definitely worth the download. The amount I saved on this app verses a therapy session makes it even more worth it. I have only scratched the surface, but can already tell this app is going to help me a ton.”

2. Great App, Great Price! – “I have to admit – I was a little skeptical when deciding to buy this app. It is not often that I spend $9.99 on an iPhone app, but I can honestly say it is worth every cent. After talking to people I know who have gone to therapy and counseling classes I’ve come to find out that this app is highly comparable in the questions that are being asked and also provides a huge cost savings. This app is a great alternative to those individuals who may not be able to afford therapy classes. Life Inventory is truly an awesome app and does what it says it can do. I highly recommend this app to anyone who has a lot going on in their life and needs to take time to Stop, Review, and Analyze why they are feeling the way they are and why they do the things they do. Great app all around!”

3. Highly Recommended – “Life can get us to points where we do not know where to turn or how to fix our situations, ultimately needing guidance or help. If you are someone who is looking to improve your life and want to diagnose some potential problem areas that need work, if so, then I would recommend you try this app. It asks you specific questions and offers you valuable insight and answers based on the information you enter. The $9.99 is just an investment into your future which I promise you will be one of the best investments you have made in a while! It certainly worked for me and gave me a new outlook and caused me to re-prioritize some key areas in my life. Try it out!”

Note: The terms “Life Inventory” and “Moral Inventory” are interchangeable.

Life Inventories Can Help Anyone:
Although originally designed for persons participating in 12-Step programs, it has since been discovered a Moral Inventory can help anyone analyze their life to learn more about themselves than ever imagined possible … and at only a small fraction the cost of a single visit to a therapist. Examine your reactions to:

* People
* Institutions and Organizations
* Principles, Ideals and Beliefs
* Sources of Anxiety and Excitement
* Fears
* Sex Relations

Background:
The Life Inventory app was created because of the complexity and length of time needed to complete a proper Moral Inventory. When persons working their way through a 12-step program start creating their own moral inventory and discover that some ways of doing a Moral Inventory might require a thousand spreadsheets, the task seems daunting and many never get around to finishing it, thus depriving themselves of the rewards a completed Moral Inventory can provide. This app is an attempt at finding a way to make the task less time consuming, while at the same time helping the user create a valuable asset in their recovery process.

Storage of the Life Inventory data is done using an underlying database which can be backed up and restored as necessary.

Disclaimer – This app is neither officially produced nor approved by Alcoholics Anonymous or any other Addiction Recovery program. From what is known there have been many Moral Inventory spreadsheets circulating unofficially among AA members for at least 50 years in various versions and this app is based on one the developer found to be useful and more comprehensive than most.

Acknowledgement:
Many thanks to “George” and his “Dungeon Prison Complete” spreadsheet which has been used as the outline for this app. This spreadsheet was developed based on years of his own personal research of the AA Big Book, along with help from many others who had already gone through the process of completing their own Moral Inventories. This was done in order to more fully understand the concepts necessary for completing his own Moral Inventory. George’s extensive research resulted in the creation of the “Dungeon Prison Complete” spreadsheet, a detailed set of instructions on how to create a Moral Inventory, including several new concepts not directly covered in the AA Big Book: Sources of Anxiety/Excitement as a 4th Category; and a set of Sex Relations exercises. Both of these new elements were discovered to be critical in eventually understanding why we do what we do, the end result of completing your own Moral Inventory.

Anyone, Not Just 12-Steppers, Can Benefit from Completing a Life Inventory:

The process of completing a Life Inventory doesn’t directly address addictions specifically, but rather helps the user examine in detail events that have transpired in their life. The Life Inventory app gently assists the user in probing into not only what happened, but also why it happened. The questions asked help the user delve into areas often never considered before like:

* What did I want?
* Why did I want it?
* What am I not admitting?
* What lie did I tell myself? (always present)
* What did I leave out or not say?
* What lie did I tell others?
* Have I ever done the same thing?
* Was it any of my business?
* Were my expectations reasonable?
* What was the real truth?
* What was I not seeing?
* Did I fail to see the facts of the situation?
* What actions did I take to get what I wanted?
* What actions did I omit to get what I wanted?

Sometimes the questions are difficult to answer, but once done, they help provide significant insight into why certain choices were made and, more importantly, determining there are often alternative choices available which will make life so much better in the future.

Going out with a group this New Year’s Eve? Tip This by Maitre d’ Malone will embolden you to speak up to the haughtiest of your foodie friends and never be usurped at table again.

* Debate the merits of barrel aged tawny port vs bottle aged single vintage port … child’s play.
* Speculate on the foreign exchange implications of buying Bordeaux wine futures … bring it on!
* Do they know why their heroes Chef Escoffier and Maitre d’ Ritz were fired from the Savoy Hotel in London in 1897?

Because you now do. Early 2012 upgrades to Tip This by Maitre d’ Malone will allow users to converse, instantly converting rooms filled with strangers into communities of table hopping chums chatting, flirting, rating and comparing their dining experience in real time and more importantly in real life.

Safely, stately and securely fine dining is poised for a quantum leap of digital magnitude. Why ask a waiter what they’d recommend when there in hand is a twitter-like feed of candid comments about meals that have just left the kitchen while hapless managers in back rooms attempt damage control. No, no, no! Medium rare is supposed to be that red. That’s an industry standard mark up wine ya cheapskate!

Some will be better than others. Tip This by Maitre d’ Malone, the iPhone app transfiguring F&B.
